Pupils Vs Teachers Report

On Wednesday the 19th of March 2008, the first pupils vs teachers match took place at Strathmore RFC. The pupils consisted of the Strathmore Schools side(pupils from Forfar and Websters), a few new faces and a few ex-pupils. The teachers were made up from staff from both Websters and Forfar plus a few parents with links to the school.
The teachers won the coin toss and opted for kick off. The pupils started well, taking the ball into contact and showed no fear of the teachers. The scores remained 0-0 for over 5 minutes until Strathmore broke the deadlock with a great try David Ferguson. This was then converted by Gary Robb.
The teachers hit back with a try, but a failed conversion from Mr.Caddell ment the score stood at 7-5 to the pupils
Both teams showed promised by breaking the gain line, but a foul from the pupils cost them 3 points as Mr. Caddell kicked a penalty.
The teachers then began to dominate as players like Mr. Baldie and Mr. Caddells brother carried the ball up he field, this lead to a try for the teachers with a failed convertion by Mr. Caddell. The score was now 7-8.
The pupils withheld an onslaught from the teachers with some great last gasp tackles being made by the backs, but the pupils could only hold the teachers off for so long until they crossed over the line again, but Mr.Caddell missed the conversion. 7-13 to the teachers.
In the 2nd third, Duncan Hampton showed everyone how to score by side stepping most of the teachers to score, the conversion was unsuccessfully. 12-13.
Mr. Caddells brother replied with a 50m run to score a try which Mr.Caddell converted. 12-20. Yet another try put the teachers further ahead and the conversion by Mr.Caddell extended the teachers lead to 12-27.
The pupils knew more was needed to be done and a try form Matt Allen, which was converted by Gary Robb put the pupils only 8 points behind. 19-27.
A mighty last push from the pupils rewarded them with a try but the conversion was just wide so the score stood at 24-27. In the last few minutes the pupils held off a bombardment of attacks form the teachers and the final whistle went to end the game, the teachers emerged victors, 24-27.
Well done to all the pupils and teachers. A thanks to the ref, crowd for cheering the pupils on, Mrs Caddell, Miss Ward and James mum for dishing out the soup and butter, Mr Caddells brother for coming up from Glasgow to play. And a big thanks to Mr Marshall who made this all possible.
